Cannabis isn’t only for smoking. Using cannabis in skin care products is now an emerging trend in the 21st century. Many self conscious persons are now opting for less chemically processed products and cruelty free ways to take care of their body.
Promoting a good night’s rest and relieving stress and anxiety are health benefits found from using cannabis oil. The components and properties of a nutrient dense marijuana oil can increase your digestive system and boosts appetite.
So to channel our inner hippy, we’re using a simple DIY recipe to create your own homemade cannabis oil.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1. A Slow cooker
2. Carrier oil of your choice
3. Baking sheet
4. Marijuana, of course
5. Cheese cloth.
Step One: Pre-heat your oven to 240 F. Grind up your weed and spread the ground herb evenly onto the baking sheet. The reason behind this step is to ensure that you’re getting the best from your weed. Baking the ground marijuana decarbs the weed for a more potent effect. This step should take anywhere between 30 to 50 minutes. At the end of the process your weed should be dried and brown in color. If you have a food processor or blender, pulse the weed until coarsely ground.
Step Two: Choosing your oil of preference. We would recommend using a carrier oil that is highly fat concentrated. Our option for today is coconut oil. The reason for using fatty oils is because the fat content makes the process of absorbing the cannabinoids and terpenes from the weed better.
Step Three: Grab your slow cooker. For every one ounce of weed you will need two cups of coconut oil. Add both ingredients, stir for a while and then allow the weed to soak in he coconut oil. Ensure that none is sticking to the walls of the slow cooker, so regular stirring is necessary for the first few hours.
Step Four: Heat. Set the slow cooker to 3 hours and allow the time to run off, gradually stir the mixture every 30 minutes or so. After the first 3 hours the weed should look soggy from soaking in the oil for so long but instead of moving to the next step we are going to set the timer for another 8-10 hours. It’s best to do this overnight or in the morning before leaving for work.
Step Five: After you have successfully endured the 10 hours the next step is to strain and store the oil. Grab your cheesecloth and place it over a large bowl, if you don’t have a cheesecloth then a fine strainer would work great as well. Pour the mixture on top of the cheesecloth, gather the ends of the cheesecloth and with clean hands squeeze the herbs to ensure that all of the oil is being collected. Store in a glass container for future use.
You could use your oil to grow your hair, bake cookies, cook your dishes or to moisturize your skin. Adding the oil to your lotion adds more slip which helps with skin elasticity and health.
